Here’s the proposed downtown Barre building that either is or is not competing with Waterbury for state jobs.
Monday, Gov. Peter Shumlin dropped the news on the Times Argus editorial board that he plans to put state workers there. Rep. Tom Stevens, D-Waterbury, says this morning that that doesn’t necessarily mean workers who had been in Waterbury pre-Irene.
Plans for the Barre project will be unveiled at a public presentation at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Barre Opera House. It is described as a place that could house “up to 400 state workers” along with retail outlets and other businesses.
Barre has an e-petition going on the project’s website, encouraging people to put in a word for making the state of Vermont an “anchor tenant” in the building.
